It all depends on the technique used. The traditional way of placing an implant involves cutting the gum tissue open and peeling it back to reveal the bone in order to place the implant. As you might imagine, the exposure of the bone to air, saliva etc. and the gum tissue healing process can result in significant discomfort for a week or so. Our preferred way of placing a dental implant is the Computer- Guided implant placement technique. It is based on virtual dental implant planning in a 3D x-ray, which is then converted into a precise surgical guide which in turn is used to place the implant through a minimal (~4mm) opening in the gum tissue. No stitches are necessary and there is almost no discomfort, swelling, bleeding, bruising etc. We firmly believe that this minimally invasive approach is the best method of placing a dental implant that is available anywhere today.

No. There is a slightly higher risk for complications, but that can be discussed at your consultation.

Dental Implants have one of the highest long-term success rates of any dental procedure (at 95% or better). The titanium material, from which they are made, is very biocompatible with the human body and ensures long-term success. Titanium has been used for more than 50 years in medical and dental procedures with no significant adverse effects.
